On Tuesday, December 12, the Senate approved with a large majority the proposed Framework Law on Cybersecurity and Critical Information Infrastructure, introduced in March 2022 and analyzed by the Finance and Public Security committees.
The bill passed by the House seeks to establish an institutional framework that promotes risk management and the implementation of cybersecurity standards in the country. It also establishes minimum requirements for the prevention, containment and resolution of incidents and cyber-attacks.

One of the main components of the initiative is the creation of the National Cybersecurity Agency (ANCI), a body that will have the function of managing cybersecurity incidents; and regulating, supervising and sanctioning the actions of public and private institutions in the area of cybersecurity. This new service will be linked to the President of the Republic through the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security.
However, the ANCI is not the only novelty within the proposal, since the legislative initiative also contemplates the creation of a National Defense Information Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), under the Ministry of Defense, which will be responsible for the coordination, protection and security of the networks and systems of essential services and operators vital to national defense.
In a conversation with Tele13 Radio, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, highlighted that Chile becomes the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to have a project of this magnitude.
