The National Cybersecurity Agency (ANCI) began operations on January 2, 2025. This technical body was created following the approval of the Cybersecurity Framework Law in December 2023. The law aims to strengthen protection against risks associated with cyberspace and establish clear standards in this area.

Lawyer Daniel Álvarez Valenzuela, who holds a doctorate in Law from the University of Chile, was appointed as ANCI’s first director. Álvarez has extensive experience in cybersecurity, having participated in drafting the National Cybersecurity Policy (2017), its update in 2023, and the Cyberdefense Policy (2018). He also played key roles in international organizations and in the drafting process of the Framework Law.

Key functions of the ANCI include:

▪️ Regulating and supervising public and private institutions managing essential services and operators of vital importance (OIV).
▪️ Establishing mandatory cybersecurity protocols, standards, and instructions.
▪️ Administering the State’s Secure Connectivity Network.
▪️ Advising the Government on cybersecurity policies and action programs.
▪️ Promoting cybersecurity education and preventing incidents that could affect critical services.

With its launch, ANCI will contribute to protecting Chile’s digital infrastructure against emerging threats, such as cybercrimes and attacks on critical services. These include sectors like health, telecommunications, transportation, financial services, and others deemed essential under the new regulations.
