Last Monday, April 8, the launching of the effective connectivity strategy and the digital skills working group promoted by the Senate’s Transport and Telecommunications Commission took place.

With the technical assistance of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the collaboration of Chile Telcos and the Chilean Chamber of Digital Infrastructure (IDICAM), in addition to the participation of public and private entities, academia and civil society, the Senate Transport and Telecommunications Committee led the development of the Digital Transformation Strategy Chile Digital 2035.

This strategy is based on two fundamental pillars: connectivity and digitalization. Through 11 challenges and 38 lines of action, the strategic plan promoted by the Senate aims to advance on issues such as the deployment of high-speed broadband networks, the development of digital talent, connectivity and the use of technologies, the digitization of the State and the economy, the strengthening of cybersecurity and the development of governance to ensure the continuity of this plan.

During the event, which brought together government authorities, ECLAC, IDICAM, Fundación País Digital and Chile Telcos, the Effective Connectivity Strategy was presented and the working group on digital skills was launched.

At the meeting, the president of the Commission, Ximena Órdenes, pointed out that this type of initiative is “fundamental to face the great challenges in terms of education, labor insertion and productive development of the country” and added that there is a need to develop basic digital competencies.

“Today we are talking about the objectives of digital development, all with a strategic view, thinking that no one is left out when closing the gaps, in addition to always thinking about the potential of the country’s social development”, closed the senator.
