Chile enters a new media era: Television Digitalization
A new media stage is inaugurated in Chile with the end of analog television transmission, marking a step towards the complete digitalization of media. This milestone not only implies technological modernization but also strengthens the diversity and quality of available channels.
In a recent broadcast of “Government Informs”, the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, along with the General Secretary of Government, Nicole Cardoch, discussed the key aspects of this process. Minister Muñoz highlighted the technological advancement that positions Chile as a leader in telecommunications, while recognizing the challenges to ensure national coverage. Emphasis was placed on the new open and free television, offering a wide range of channels, including regional and local ones, with improved signal quality.
On the other hand, Undersecretary Cardoch emphasized the opportunities that digitalization brings for the creation of national content and the strengthening of the media industry, as well as the pluralization of media thanks to the released broadband spectrum.
In addition to the cessation of analog signal, the distribution of digital kits to low-income people throughout the country was implemented, in accordance with the Digital Television Law.
These efforts are taking place in the context of the upcoming World Press Freedom Day Conference, to be held in Chile in May, organized by UNESCO with the support of the Chilean government.
