Three researchers from NUDOS participated in the 107th Annual Conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), held from August 8 to 11 in Philadelphia, USA.

Highlighted Contributions:

Macarena Peña y Lillo, Associate Researcher at NUDOS and Associate Professor at Diego Portales University, presented her study on “Overload and Disparities by Educational Attainment in COVID-19 Information Behaviors among Chilean Adults” on August 8. Additionally, on August 10, she spoke on “Dealing with Digital Technologies in Chilean Classrooms Post-Pandemic: Insights from Educators” co-authored with Teresa Correa, Alternate Director of NUDOS and Full Professor at Diego Portales University. Peña y Lillo noted that, in addition to presenting her work, “what is valuable is learning what other researchers are doing at various universities around the world, which allows us to see the current relevance of the topics we address at NUDOS from the perspective of communication and journalism. Clearly, the projects in progress at the center fit very well within the macro-level discussion.”

Ingrid Bachmann, Director of NUDOS and Associate Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, participated in the AEJMC Permanent Publications Committee Panel on August 9, where “The Legacy of Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly: Centennial Reflections” was discussed. Bachmann highlighted that “this conference has given me the opportunity to connect with other researchers (including some senior researchers from NUDOS), exchange ideas, and explore future collaborations.”

Catalina Farías, NUDOS PhD student, presented her work titled “What am I, Then?: Identity Politics and Intergroup Dynamics in Online Discussions of Latinx Identity” on August 10. Farías commented that “the conference was a valuable opportunity to share my research, receive feedback, and establish connections with other researchers working on similar topics, positioning NUDOS’s research around marginalized communities and their participation in the digital environment.”
