Increase in fiber optic connections in Chile
Chile’s Undersecretary of Telecommunications (Subtel) has published statistics showing continued growth in fiber optic connections in the home. As of March 2024, fiber optics accounted for 69.7% of fixed connections, consolidating its position as the main technology in 14 regions of the country. Satellite connections have also increased by 77% in the last year.
Chile stands out worldwide for its fiber optic deployment, ranking among the 10 countries with the highest coverage according to the OECD. 5G connections have grown by 74.4%, reaching 4.25 million.
Undersecretary Claudio Araya highlighted the expansion of connectivity projects, such as “Digital Homes” in Aysén, to improve the quality of life through greater digital accessibility.
