A month ago, the bases of the new public tender promoted by the Undersecretary of Telecommunications (SUBTEL) were published, a process that will have considerations that seek to cover new areas of the country with 5G technology to provide better connectivity to the country and thereby reduce the digital divide.

The 5G network is the fifth generation of mobile technology, characterized by its higher speed and response time in data transmission. This bandwidth also allows a large number of devices to be connected.

This tender has the purpose of granting between 1 to 5 public telecommunications service concessions, which will have a duration of 30 years.

“The service area will correspond to the total coverage area of the base stations committed by the applicant in its technical project, which includes communal coverage, complementary coverage in localities and mandatory coverage in routes”, states SUBTEL in the description of the contest.

According to Undersecretary Carlos Araya, “this tender will allow us to reach more localities, complementing what was done in the previous 5G tender. In addition, we will illuminate several highways with mobile Internet, providing them with greater security”.
